Here is a list of all of the car-related shows I could think of off the top of my head, in no particular order:
Chasing Classic Cars
Car Crazy
Car Fix
All Girl Garage
Overhaulin'
Fast N' Loud
Top Gear
Top Gear USA
Fifth Gear
Wheeler Dealers
Bitchin Rides
Garage Squad
Stacy David's Gearz
Detroit Muscle
Engine Power
Xtreme Offroad
Truck Tech
What's My Car Worth?
Dream Car Garage
American Hot Rod
Fat N' Furious: Rolling Thunder
Street Outlaws
Some of these are current or about to debut, while others are in re-runs. Some of these are good, others less so. That is a lot of automotive programming, most of it in the half-hour, product placement intensive format. Am I missing any? Should I be?

ROADKILLLLL
Also, there's Car S.O.S, For The Love Of Cars (7 episode series that just finished) and James May's Cars Of The People which begins tonight on BBC Two at 10PM GMT.

DRIVE is pretty good.

Not a lot of variety though for so many shows.
Basically
Reviews (Gears show)
Restoration (A lot of these)
Reality (Because Cops don't watch Discovery apparently)

keep going:

And they're seriously just the same show recycled with different people.
TWO GUYS THAT WORK TOGETHER "GETTIN IT DONE"
SOMEONE OR SOME CORPORATE ENTITY WANTS THEM TO "GET IT DONE" BY A DEADLINE
TWO GUYS ARE EXCITED AND ARE ON THE SAME PAGE (SECRETLY ONE OF THEM ISN'T ON THE SAME PAGE SO HE DOES SOMETHING BEHIND THE OTHER ONES BACK)
PRODUCT PLACEMENT [A] GUYS ARE REAL EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW PRODUCT [A] AND TO BE WORKING WITH PRODUCT [A]'S PARENT COMPANY
OH LOOK DRAMA THEY WON'T MAKE THE DEADLINE UNLESS THEY WORK REAL HARD
PRODUCT PLACEMENT [B]
STILL DRAMA WILL THEY MAKE THE DEADLINE
OH GOOD THEY MADE THE DEADLINE AND SOMEONE/CORPORATE ENTITY IT HAPPY THAT THE TWO GUYS "GOT IT DONE"

Does highway Thru Hell count? It's about cars...sort of.
What about ice road truckers?

Ice Road Truckers is brilliant. There's no other show in the world where you get to see thirty metre skid marks.

OH THE SUSPENSE

Never seen Highway Thru Hell, or Ice Road Truckers. I suppose if I included Street Outlaws I should have.

Here is a list of all the car-related shows that aren't completely staged, annoying as hell, or absolutely boring:

The show that does this the best is Roadkill, except they do work together, and the miss deadlines like every episode.

Roadkill.

Sssh, you'll ruin my point.

All the good shows are on the internet anyway, they aren't "real" shows, whatever that means.

My problem with shows like this is that I watch 40+ minutes to realize that, fun as it may be, I didn't learn anything from it. Maybe some obscure stuff about trucking, but nothing useful or interesting that I could use beyond talking to friends who also like the show.

This is probably Motortrend's editors futilely trying to make them fit the mold.

I'd rather avoid that Hornet's nest because:

I just watch it to veg. Not to learn.

I've seen some early episodes of theirs, they seem to be slightly different to the copy-paste reality tv show..
It's not just the car shows either, it's all those storage wars, real estate wars, digging stuff up out of the ground with metal detector wars, we build fish tanks wars, Faberge egg wars. All follow the same formula.
and I swear they all have the same editor and same music composer. The same shots, the same guitar riffs on every show. It drives me insane, I can't enjoy any of these shows because I've over analysed them.
